FAQ

If you have a question and do not see it addressed below, please send us an email at info@emergencyid.com

How do I know if I need (or someone I care about needs) this service/product?

Consider purchasing an Emergency ID medical ID product if you have a health condition you would want communicated to a medical professional if you were unable to do so yourself.  Health conditions could include medical procedures, allergies, or mental health issues.  We have included many possible suggestions in the custom engraving section of our website which you can you review prior to committing to your order, or you can enter your own custom information. We have a wide variety of medical ID bracelets, medical ID necklaces and medical ID wallet cards and ID tags.

Can I purchase an Emergency ID for someone else?

Absolutely!  It is very common for caregivers and family members to purchase a medical ID for someone else who needs one.  We can ship to anywhere in North America and to third-party locations.

Do I have to buy a product in order to have an online Datafile?

Anyone can create and print their online Datafile for free, without buying a product.

What information should I include in my online Datafile?

We will provide you with some ideas, but it is really up to you what you choose to include in your Datafile.  You are the creator and editor of your Datafile and your information is not editable by anyone at Emergency ID.  Keep in mind that although your Datafile is linked to your unique alpha-numeric code, it can be viewed by anyone who has access to your code.  Click here to see a sample Datafile, which shows the various types of data that can be included.

What should I engrave on my medical ID product?

This is totally up to you, but here are a few things to keep in mind:

- There is room for up to five lines of custom engraving. In an emergency, your medical ID product must communicate what you can’t, so include the information most important to first responders.  This may include medical condition(s), allergies, medications, emergency contact information, etc., but try to keep engraving simple and to the point.

-There is a limited amount of space on your medical alert ID emblem, so consider space-saving wording (ie: “allerg: shellfish” vs “allergy to shellfish”). As you enter the information to be engraved, you will see an image showing exactly how it will look on the finished medical ID product.

- If your medical information changes substantially, we recommend your purchase a new medical id product. Additional information can’t be added to a product once it has been engraved.

Should I engrave my name on my Emergency ID product?

Engraving a name is not recommended on a child’s medical ID bracelet unless there is an underlying health condition (such as autism) where a name would be helpful to emergency service providers.  Similarly, a person with Alzheimer’s Disease and a history of wandering would benefit from having their name engraved on their medical ID product; an emergency contact and phone number can also be included.

What materials do you use in your products?

Please refer to specific product descriptions to see a list of the materials we use.  All products are latex-free.

How do I know what size bracelet to order?

Non-Stretch bracelets (Stainless Steel, Beaded & Aluminum Chain Mail):

Wrap a cloth measuring tape or piece of string around the wrist that will wear the ID bracelet, adjusting it to the fit you would like your bracelet to have. Generally, you should be able to fit your little finger under the ribbon or string. Mark where the ribbon or string overlaps itself, and measure this length with a ruler. This length is your comfortable bracelet size.

Select the size closest to your comfortable bracelet size. Keep in mind that if your comfortable bracelet size is 6 1/4", a 6” bracelet will probably be too tight. Note that not all bracelets are available in every size - if your comfortable bracelet size is 7 ½”, a 7" bracelet will not fit properly, so you should select another style.

Stretch bracelets & Sports Bands:

Dragon Scale, Helm and Mini Mail bracelets, as well as all sports and SuperSoft bands, are intended to have a snug fit. Adjust  the cloth tape or string to have a snug fit. Mark where the ribbon or string overlaps itself, and measure this length with a ruler.

Select the size closest to your snug fit. Note that not all bracelets are available in every size: if your snug fit is 6”, a 6 ½” bracelet will be too loose and so a different product should be selected.

Please note: Our bracelet sizing is based on circumference - not finished length, which is always longer than circumference. Please pick your bracelet size using the steps above, not by measuring the length of a bracelet or watch you may already have.

What if I find someone else’s Emergency ID?

If you find an Emergency ID medical ID product that does not belong to you, please contact us at info@emergencyid.com so that we make arrangements to return it to its rightful owner.

How can you produce custom medical ID’s so quickly?

All Emergency ID products are assembled in North America by real people who care.  Once you have made the decision to purchase a medical ID product, we understand that you’ll want to receive it as quickly as possible.  Our efficiency ensures you get a quality medical ID product at a reasonable price in the least time possible.

When will I receive my Emergency ID medical ID product?

You should receive your order within 1 - 2 weeks, once it has been shipped, depending on the destination address.

How do I change the size of my bracelet?

Please email us if you need to change the size of your Emergency ID product. Do not return your product to us without contacting us first. Emergency ID is not responsible for loss or damage of your product during return shipping.

How do I de-activate my Datafile?

If you decide you no longer want your Datafile to be viewable, please click the DISABLE button at the bottom of the page where you edit your Datafile. We never actually delete Datafiles, as we don't want anyone to be confused if they come looking for a file and there's no evidence of it. Instead, we keep the ID Code and simply display a message saying "Datafile has been disabled by the owner". If you ever want to activate it again, simply click on the Re-enable button.
